Blogs and SEO

SEO and blogging go hand in hand- or at least they should. As blogging basically means the creation of original content about certain topics, growing the visibility of your blog using SEO methods is a no brainer. Many blogging platforms- if not all of them- are optimized for SEO from the get go and all you have to do is start writing about what you like and, if your content is compelling enough and has a certain relevance overall, you’ll enjoy decent success. Or, at least, that’s what every blogger registering a quirky named domain dreams about. Everyone has the impression that they have something to say and that people will spend time reading it and paying it forward to their friends.

While the quality of the content you can write is a subjective matter, the fact remains that there are a couple of clean tricks you can play with your blog in order to make your page more visible in search results on search engines like Google or Yahoo and make “spiders” (programs indexing original content for these engines) love your blog and help you shine. But, before everything else, make sure to register your blog with a blog directory, which is a way to introduce yourself to the blogosphere and not just shoot blanks in the vastness of the internet, but publish content clearly aimed at a certain audience. Next, there are a couple of things you can do to improve your blog, SEO wise.

Make good use of keywords. Keywords are those magic fairies that will make people visit your website. If the keywords associated with your website are those that people look for online, there’s a chance they will stumble upon your website eventually. In terms of efficiency, you’re better off targeting keywords that are not very trafficked, as you would have to battle against armies of SEO companies working for the top fishes. Instead, you could more modestly represented keyboards, which are more niched and that can bring you a good, constant flow of visitors.

Make it count at the right time: Blogs use pinging in order to drive traffic, but not all bloggers know when and how to do this. Instead of manically pinging all the time, while new content hasn’t been added for a few days, you’re better off pinging at the right time of day, when spiders index pages and you have more chances of attracting people. Of course, it’s very useful to ping right after you posted new content, as that always adds some points to your cause. Also, aim to ping and post around the time crawlers and spiders tend to “look up” at your blog

Post as often as possible: This might seem like a no brainer, but in order to move your blog forward, you need content, and you need it often and it’d better be quality content. If you have new content, you will determine the spider to visit your website more often and dictate it a faster pace regarding your page. As the spider visits you more often, your pages get indexed more often and you have bigger chances to pop up higher in search results. After a while, even if you don’t have new posts for quite a while, the fact that you had new content on a regular basis for quite a while, will still keep your website up.
